North Stokes pummeled Alleghany 15-0 in the first round of softball playoffs at North Stokes High School on Friday night.
Lady Vikings Coach Jeff Frye said that his team was “peaking” at the right time. Frye said that his team worked very hard in practice all through the week and that extra practice paid off at the plate.
“We were very disciplined at the plate tonight,” he said. “I thought we did a great job.”
Over three innings, the Lady Vikings showed their prowess on the field. The team picked up a whopping 12 runs in the second inning.
Lady Viking Lindsay Brown offered up two big hits for the night. Brown helped to kick off the bottom of the second inning with a double that brought in Rebecca Gunter and Emily Myers and let the team push ahead with a 6-0 lead.
A little while later, Brown busted out another big hit. With the bases loaded, Brown battled through two balls and two strikes and then sent the ball soaring for a grand slam, which allowed the team to solidify their 15-0 win in the first round.
After the top of the third, the game was called early on the mercy rule and the Lady Trojans were sent packing.
