West Stokes competed in the 2A State Track and Field Championships at N.C. A&T University on Friday. The school’s athletes finished in the top 10 in several events and one athlete took home a championship title.
The most stunning track finish of the day was when West Stokes’ Jason Barber swept by Bartlett Yancey’s Brian Winn in the final stretch of the 800-meter run and finished in first place. Barber dropped out of the 3,200- and 1,600-meter runs to come away with his title-grabbing finish in the 800-meter run.
Barber finished the 800-meter run in one minute and 58.34 seconds, shaving three seconds off his personal best time.
Zane McGee finished the 800-meter run in seventh place with a time of two minutes, 3.58 seconds.
Kaitlyn Stone finished in sixth place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:4.96 seconds.
Aaron Lipchak got a 15th place finish in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:31.18 seconds.
In the 100-meter dash, Kyimura Oliver finished in 14th place in 13.12 seconds.
Brock Reynolds rounded out the top five in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.80 seconds.
Austin Long got an 11th place finish in the long jump event with a jump of 20 feet, 3.25 inches.
Cody McBride rounded out the top 10 in the pole vault event with a jump of 10 feet, six inches.
Matthew Garr finished in seventh place in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.75 seconds.
Three of West Stokes’ relay teams had decent finishes at the state 2A championship meet. The 4x100-meter relay team, composed of Dalton Seat, Jacob Widner, Nathan Young and Kolby Alexander, got a 14th place finish with a time of 45.43 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team, composed of Zane McGee, Justin Kiehl, Matthew Garr and Brock Reynolds, had an eighth place finish with a time of 3:32.08 seconds.
The 4x800-meter relay team, composed of Josh Adkins, Sammy Moutos, Bryan Whittington and Dana Shrader, got a 16th place finish with a time of 9:47.64 seconds.
