Wednesday night, the Wildcats had success against the Atkin’s Camels in a non-conference home game at West Stokes High School.
The Lady Wildcats swept past the Camels to grab a 38-30 win. The boys varsity team grabbed the lead early in the game and ratcheted up scores through the night. The Wildcats jammed past the Camels for 62-31 win.
Lady Wildcats Head Coach James Holleman said that Wednesday night’s game was an “ugly” game. He felt like his players were simply “going through the motions.”
Holleman said that Atkins is not exactly a top team, and that the Wildcats should have won by margin of 20 points or more.
“If we can’t do better than tonight, it’s going to be a long, hard season,” Holleman said.
While the margin of victory was wider on the boys team, head coach Dan Spainhour was not thrilled with how his team played, either.
“I think we had winner’s hangover,” he said. “I wasn’t pleased with our intensity tonight.”
Still, Spainhour said that his players settled down in the second half and put together some plays to points on the board.
Top scorers for the Wildcats were Reid Goodson (16 pts.), Josh Spainhour (13 pts.), Alston Furr (11 pts.) and Zach Hartle (10 pts.).
West Stokes will travel to North Surry for its next conference game on Friday night.
