Les Mills BODYPUMP™ classes launched Monday, January 28, at the Stokes Family YMCA. Members lined the halls to try the first session of the popular group exercise class, which will be offered eight times a week.
BODYPUMP™ is a barbell class that strengthens the entire body. It is a 60-minute, co-ed workout that uses dynamic music and choreography and challenges all major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls. Like all Les Mills programs, a new BodyPump class is released every three months with new music and choreography.
“BODYPUMP is a great way to get started lifting weights. The class can be as challenging as you want it to be because you control the resistance on your bar,” shared Tiffany Boyles, wellness director for the Stokes Family YMCA. “The moves can be modified for beginners and are great for incorporating strength training into your workout — an incredibly important part of getting fit.”
Classes last an hour and will be held Mondays at 6 p.m., Tuesdays at 5:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m., Wednesdays at 6 p.m., Thursdays at 5:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m., Saturdays at 8:30 a.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Classes are open to members and guests thinking about joining the YMCA.
