The Vikings’ varsity teams fought hard for a win in their season opening games on Tuesday night, but just could not come up with a win. The Vikings took on the East Wilkes Cardinals in a home game at North Stokes High School.

The Lady Vikings tied up the Cards in the third quarter 16-16, but the Cards flew away with the game in the fourth quarter when they grabbed a nine point lead over the Vikings. The final score of the game was 28-19.

The Vikings’ boy’s varsity team had a similar experience. It was a close game well into the final moments of the game, when East Wilkes jumped ahead by only three points and took the win. The Final score of the game was 54-51.

Other area teams played on Tuesday night, as well. West Stokes’ boy’s varsity team took home a win against Atkins 86-41. The Lady Wildcats were successful and beat the Camels 48-43.

South Stokes’ boy’s varsity team fought neck-and-neck with McMichael in the first half of the game, but they let the game slip away in the second half. McMichael beat South Stokes 87-61. South Stokes’ girl’s varsity team had better results and came away with 69-53 win against McMichael on Tuesday night.
