Thursday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m., Hospice & Palliative CareCenter of Walnut Cove will host a Memorial Tree Ceremony and Reception for Families at Recreation Acres Community Building located at 107 White Road in King. The Hospice Memorial Tree is decorated with ornaments lovingly crafted and assembled by Hospice volunteers. Each ornament bears the name of a Hospice & Palliative CareCenter patient who died during the past year. You and your family are cordially invited to join them for a ceremony honoring those loved ones who were served by the Walnut Cove office. Please free to bring a picture or memento of your loved one. Friday, Dec. 7, from 5-9 p.m., the King Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a special Christmas Shopping Night. Store owners are encouraged to observe the extended hours and offer some special product or discount. Please contact the Chamber for further information at 336-983-9308.

Saturday, Dec. 8 – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Grand Opening, J.Everette Salon. Owner/Stylist Shannon Booth invites everyone to her new salon’s grand opening. J. The King Chamber of Commerce along with the City of King held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the J. Everette Salon on Thursday, November 8.

Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m., Stokes Nursing Home, Pioneer Community Hospital of Stokes, Activity Dept will hold its annual honor tree ceremony at First Christian Church in King. Donations in honor of, or in memory of, a loved one can be mailed to Carol Tilley, Activity Director, at P.O. Box 10, Danbury, NC 27016. All proceeds will be used to enhance the lives of nursing home residents.

Friday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 16 — 7 p.m. — First Baptist Church of King will host two nights of worship and celebration. They will celebrate His gifts to us by collecting non-perishable foods to donate to King Outreach Ministry both nights. First Baptist Church of King is located at 122 Kirby Road. Sunday, Dec. 16- 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. — King Moravian Church, located at 228 W. Dalton Road in King, presents “Service of Lessons & Carols.” The King Moravian adult choir and choristers with orchestral accompaniment under the direction of Mr. Drake Flynt will feature seasonal choral music. They invite the public to join them as they celebrate this joyous season in song and music!

The King Public Library will be having its annual Christmas Open House, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, on Monday, Dec. 17th from 2 to 6 p.m. Join us for refreshments as we celebrate the Joy of the Holidays and the success of the Employability Skills Lab provided by Forsyth Tech.

Santa Claus is coming to the King Public Library! Santa Claus will be visiting Preschool Storytime on Tuesday, Dec. 18th at 10:30 a.m. Stories, songs, holiday fun, and refreshments will be provided!

PARTY MIX

2 cans French fried onions

2 lbs. mixed nuts

1 lg. can potato chips

1 box Rice, Chex or Corn Chex

1 ½ Tbsp. Worcestershire

1 ½ tbsp cup oil

1 ½ tsp. Worcestershire Sauce

1 Tbsp. barbecue sauce

Mix together well. Bake at 200 degrees for 2 hours; stir frequently while cooking

HAM AND SWISS TREATS

2 pkgs dinner rolls

1 ½ tbsp. dry mustard

6 oz. Swiss Cheese (long slices)

½ tsp Worcestershire Sauce

6 oz. sliced ham

1 ½ tbsp. poppy seeds

1 stick margarine melted

Slice through rolls (horizontally). Place ham and cheese between sliced rolls. Mix rest of ingredients together and pour over rolls. Let stand several hours or over night in refrigerator. Bake 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Slice between rolls through ham and cheese.
