Sandy Ridge Music Association welcomes Hazy Ridge Bluegrass and Southern Gentlemen on Saturday, September 9 beginning at 6 pm. This will be the first appearance by Hazy Ridge Bluegrass. Band members are: Vince Myers, Dawn Myers, Reagan Hudson, Duane Hicks, John Erwin, Bryan Bogenberger and one of very own from Sandy Ridge – George Cutchins on bass. Southern Gentlemen has performed several times in the past and band members are: Johnny Johnson, Bobby Whitlock, Steve Shivley and Burgess Hurd. We need the support of the community; so, if you have never been to one of our bluegrass music events, now would be a good time!

Sandy Ridge Music Association will host their Inaugural Bluegrass Open Jam at George Stanley Farm on Saturday, April 14, 2018. The local Ruritans are on board with us, and we are so excited to have their help in this endeavor. If you are interested in setting up a vendor/craft table, please contact Carolyn Craig, Barbara Spencer, Junior Hall, George Cutchins or any Ruritan. I will keep you updated as our plans progress.

Delta UMC Women’s Group will have a yard and bake sale on Saturday, September 9 beginning at 7 am. Hotdogs, chips and drinks will be for sale at lunch time.

Stokes Partnership for Children is hosting BBQ for Books which is a literacy program that raises funds for early literacy initiatives for the county’s young children from birth to five years of age, including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Bluegrass music is woven into the fabric of Stokes County’s rich heritage; so, because of these two things, it only made sense to add a side of bluegrass to our event! The featured bands this year will be: Tommy Nichols & Harrison Ridge, Hubert Lawson & The Bluegrass Country Boys and GoodFellers. Bring your dancing shoes and come on out to Mt Olive Elementary School in King on October 6 from 5 until 9 pm. There will be a silent auction, bake sale and numerous games. BBQ plates are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Food by John Brown’s BBQ includes barbecue pork, fried chicken, two slaws, beans, drink and dessert. You are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance if possible. You may call 985-2676 and give your information or mail check to P. O. Box 2319, King, NC 27021 and your ticket will be mailed to you.
