Continued prayers for the people in Texas and Louisiana. Lord knows when their life will return to any kind of “normal” again. And now we have Irma lurking in the Atlantic. Strange how the weather can affect the way people feel about statues.

There is a possibility, notice I did say possibility, that you may see “No Trespassing” signs at the Francisco School playground in the next few days. This is temporary. While transferring ownership from the Stokes County Board of Commissioners to Chestnut Street Investments, LLC, there may be a period of time before a lease agreement and insurance can be put in place. A public community meeting date will soon be announced to decide the support needed and steps required to proceed.

The Francisco Presbyterian Church will have Sunday morning fellowship starting at 9:30 am, Sunday, September 10. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is invited to attend.

Everyone is invited to the Francisco Ruritan 50th Anniversary Celebration Sunday, September 10, at the Francisco Community Building. From 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, they will have free hot dogs and a $50 giveaway, but you must be present to win.

The ever popular Stokes Stomp will be this weekend September 9-10 at Moratock Park in Danbury. Francisco Volunteer Fire Department usually has one of the fire trucks in the parade (probably the antique white one). Anticipate a large crowd.

The Crossroad Community Church Women’s Group will have a community Yard Sale and Breakfast Saturday, September 16 at the Francisco Community Building. Breakfast will be ready at 8 am and will be available until 11 am. The sale will start at 8 am and last until noon. Vendors and yard sellers may rent tables for $10 each to sell their products and goodies. For more information call Kim Holland at 336-406-1559.

Speaking of Crossroad Community Church, they are now having their services at the church building on Aaron’s Corner Church Road. The services start at 10 am and everyone is welcome to attend. It’s so nice to see this old church building being used again. I remember services there when I was little, especially the third Sunday in August every year. Cars would be parked on both sides of the road. The best cooks in the world are those Primitive Baptist Grandmas.

The North Stokes High School Class of 1967 will have their 50th Class Reunion Saturday, September 16 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Steele Crest located at 1215 Steele Road in Sandy Ridge. For more information or to RSVP, please call Barry Dodson at 336-552-4848. Spouses are welcome. Refreshments and entertainment are free.

Tickets are now available for the Poor Man’s Supper and Gun Raffle Saturday, October 14, at the Francisco Community Building. The price is $20 per ticket and does include 2 suppers and 3 chances on the gun raffle. For information call Alfred Dunkley at 336-351-3418. I’ll have more in the coming weeks about this event.
