An East Bend woman has been charged with murder following a domestic situation during which two individuals were stabbed Saturday in East Bend.

Wendy Denise Whiteheart, 48, was taken into custody and has been charged with murder, said East Bend Police Chief R. Bowers.

The Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a domestic assault in progress on Union Hill Road at about 11 a.m. Saturday, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

When deputies arrived, they found three individuals at the residence, two with stab wounds. Susan C. Bennett, 57, was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, while Patricia Ann Simmons, 76, was pronounced dead on the scene.

On Tuesday, Bowers said Bennett has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery from injuries sustained.

Bowers said that in addition to the murder charge, Whiteheart also was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Assisting with the investigation are the East Bend Police Department, Yadkin Sheriff’s Office and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation.
